Latvia developed rules for implementation of reusable packaging turnover system
The Ministry of Environment and Regional Development (VARAM) of Latvia has developed rules for the introduction of a system of turnover of reusable containers in the territory of the country. About it writes on Tuesday, April 28, the portal Diena.lv. According to journalists, in order to introduce the deposit system in the country it is necessary to build container reception points, install automatic reception and payment machines, as well as other special equipment. The initial investment for the introduction of a more environmentally friendly model is estimated at 30 million euros. It is noted that for the consumer, the introduction of a reusable container system, means an increase in the cost of the drink bottle from 1.2 to 4.4 euro cents. According to journalists, the problems with the introduction of the deposit system can be experienced by representatives of small shops, the profitability of which is not designed for new, significant for them, costs.
