Russian deminers cleaned 3 thousand hectares of shells in South Ossetia
Polygons with a total area of more than 3 thousand hectares were cleared of explosive objects by Russian deminers in South Ossetia. This is reported on May 3 by the press service of the Southern Military District of the Russian Defense Ministry. In carrying out the task of complete cleaning of polygons military engineers used modern means: seekers of non-contact explosive devices Korshun-3M and protective suits Dublon, the press service of the military department reads. It is reported that the found shells and other dangerous objects were destroyed on the spot in order not to pose additional danger to people. In total, more than 100 military personnel from Russia took part in the demining works. Trained dogs and specialized equipment were also used. It should be noted that during the winter exercises about 160,000 ammunition was used at the polygons of the Russian military base in South Ossetia, including 20,000 artillery shells and 4,000 hand grenades.
