Trade talks between the United States and China scheduled for August 15 broke down

Consideration of the trade agreement between the United States and China, originally scheduled for August 15 in a videoconference format, is postponed due to scheduling problems, Reuters reported on August 14. The delay is due to the ongoing party conference of the Communist Party of China in the city of Beidaihe (PRC). According to unnamed, but informed sources, a new date for negotiations between Washington and Beijing has not been agreed. Recall that the aforementioned negotiations were to be attended by US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Liu He. According to the news agency, the White House previously said that Washington considers the pace of purchases in the framework of a trade deal with China in recent weeks satisfactory and does not plan to abandon the agreement.
